Yesterday, the American University of Technology (AUT) had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Askarali Karimov, a distinguished engineering consultant and expert in water resources and hydrologic engineering. Dr. Karimov is currently the Technical Director of Water Resources & Hydrologic Engineering at Kasberg, Patrick & Associates, LP, a reputable civil engineering firm in Temple, Texas, USA. His extensive professional background includes prior roles as Research Associate and Co-Principal Investigator at Texas A&M University’s Biological & Agricultural Engineering Department, where he led engineering and extension projects related to water management, agricultural systems, and sustainability.
Dr. Karimov’s impressive consultancy experience spans multiple countries, including the United States and Central Asian countries, with expertise in areas such as water conservation, GIS applications, and advanced engineering solutions for water and wastewater management. He has contributed significantly to applied science in these fields, authoring numerous research publications and technical reports, including projects focused on improving water resource systems and developing hydrological models.
During his visit, Dr. Karimov met with Professor Said Irandoust, the Founding Rector of AUT, where both explored an intriguing concept: the potential establishment of an AUT Consultancy. This consultancy would aim to support Uzbekistan and the wider Central Asian region by providing advanced engineering solutions for sustainable development projects. The proposal envisions leveraging AUT’s faculty expertise, skilled staff, and motivated students, as well as collaborating with AUT’s international partners, to address critical engineering challenges in the region.
Both Dr. Karimov and Professor Irandoust expressed enthusiasm for the potential of this initiative, with Dr. Karimov noting that “the expertise and innovation at AUT can offer substantial contributions to Uzbekistan’s development.” Professor Irandoust echoed this sentiment, adding, “A consultancy could create an invaluable platform for AUT’s students and faculty to engage in real-world projects that bring lasting value to our community and beyond.”
While still in its early stages, the idea offers the possibility for AUT to become a regional leader in engineering consultancy, with a focus on practical, hands-on experience for students and faculty collaboration. Further discussions and evaluations will explore the feasibility and scope of this potential initiative, which could provide impactful solutions for Uzbekistan and neighboring countries.
